The 2nd PALM&G Meeting in Mie
Charge d’ Affaires Kelera Savu attended the 2nd Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting & Governors (PALM & G) Meeting hosted by Mie Prefecture at Shima Kanko Hotel in Shima City, Mie. The meeting chaired by His Excellency Mr. Katsuyuki Ichimi, Governor of Mie, gathered participants from six Pacific island countries and eleven local governments. The meeting focussed on three key themes of environment, health, and sports, with discussions that delve into the latest developments of people-to-people exchanges, trade, and business development, including SME Chamber of Commerce and Industries as well as labour mobility.
The agenda of the meeting also included the endorsement for Akita Prefecture and Oita Prefecture to join the Local Government Networking; together with Initiatives for interpersonal exchange and human resource development with Pacific Island countries, Review of the last three years’ activities by His Excellency Mr. Seiji Hamada, Governor of Kochi Prefecture, and the Report of FY2021 activities and initiatives proposed for human capital exchange and human resource development.

PIC Ambassadors Group Meeting
The Pacific Island Countries Ambassadors Group (PICAG) meeting chaired by H.E Mr John Fritz, Embassy of the Federated States of Micronesia held its meeting today, Friday, 13 May 2022. The PICAG Agenda included the 2nd PALM & G Meeting in Mie and other matters.

PIC Director Visits the Fiji Embassy
Mr. Ryuzo Saito, Director of the Pacific Islands Centre (PIC), visited the Fiji Embassy in Tokyo today. It was an opportunity for the Director to update Charge d`Affaires Kelera Savu on the PIC 25th Anniversary Commemorative Book (1996-2021) and share views on further promoting trade and investment ties between our two countries. Deputy Director Ms. Akiko Takahashi also accompanied the Director.
New Marshall Islands Ambassador to Japan
The new Ambassador of the Republic of Marshall Islands, HE Mr. Alexander Carter Bing presented his Letter of Credence to the Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Takeo Mori on Wednesday, 30 March 2022. He is a former Ambassador of the Marshall Islands to the Republic of China (Taiwan) from 2002 to 2008, before rejoining the private sector. Ambassador Bing 72, is married and has 5 children.
Charge d’Affaires Savu pays courtesy call on Oita City Mayor
The Embassy of the Republic of Fiji, Tokyo recently visited Oita Prefecture as part of its outreach program, seeking greater engagement with the wider Japanese society. While in Oita, Charge d`Affaires Kelera Savu called on His Worship Kiichiro SATO at the Mayor’s Office on 25 April 2022 for courtesies, as well as the Oita Prefecture Government Office and the Oita Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Fiji’s Honorary Consul in Beppu, Hokkaido, Mr. Chikayuki Shimizu, returned from Fiji last Monday, 18 April 2022. He visited the Embassy to give an update to the Charge d’ Affaires. HC Shimizu’s company, Hokusyo Co. Ltd., specializes in the automotive-related business.
